Not sure what to say?

We lost Port five years ago, five long years. I can't count the number of times I wished I could talk with him. He always had the best advice for managing my career. He could give guidance on teaching, research, and just living well. One insight from him: Take points off if students answer a question by throwing in everything they have ever read about the subject. They obviously can't just answer the question. I still miss you Port.

Lyman Porter was an exemplar for how a professional and gentleman should conduct himself. His warmth made you feel welcome immediately.

Lyman Porter was a great scholar, a staunch friend and a kind and loving husband and father.

I had the greatest respect for Lyman Porter for his work and his warm and unassuming personality. I was chairman of the Department of Management at DePaul University and was instrumental in recommending that he receive an honorary Ph.D. at DePaul, his first. It was a great honor for me and for DePaul. He will be sorely missed.

Port set the standard for scholarship in the field of organizational behavior and service to the Academy of Management. However, he also set the standard for being a husband, father grandfather and mentor and close friend to numerous students and colleagues. He will be greatly missed but his legacy will live forever.

Port was loved and respected around the world as a great scholar and an even greater human being.

I was fortunate to not only have Port as my dissertation chair but also as a continuing mentor, colleague and friend. My life was enriched through knowing him and feels diminished with his loss.

Lyman Porter was a man of man of kind and generous spirit. His contributions to UCI were legendary. He was a wonderful mentor to students and colleagues alike, and he will be remembered with great fondness.
