Lyndal Bowen Obituary

July 6, 1946 - May 27, 2009

Lyndal "Lyn" H. Bowen, 62, of College Station, passed away on the morning of May 27, 2009, after losing a battle with liver and kidney disease.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 29, at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.

Services are set for 10 a.m. Saturday, May 30, at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan with the Rev. Patrick Ebner officiating.

Lyn was born on July 6, 1946, to Henry "Hug" Bowen and Ineva "Corky" Bowen in Wellington, Texas. Lyn began his career as an apprentice cable splicer at GTE Telephone Company in Wellington; he retired at the young age of 53 as a local manager at GTE in Bryan.

After Lyn retired, he spent most of his days on the golf course at Pebble Creek Country Club. He loved the game of golf and the good times he had with his fellow golfers.

He was most proud of his two holes-in-one, his first at Lady Bird Johnson Golf Course in Fredericksburg, Texas and the second on Hole # 8 at his home course, Pebble Creek Golf Course.

He played golf every day until his surgery for bladder cancer kept him from playing. Once Lyn could not play golf, he developed a passion for cooking and would test recipes that he had seen on the Food Network.

Other lifetime passions were hunting and fishing. Lyn was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and the Texas State Rifle Association. He believed wholeheartedly in the Second Amendment.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 25 years, Marilyn Perrone Bowen of College Station; sister, Beth White, of Phoenix, Ariz.; children, Barrett L. Bowen and his wife Arinda, of Conway, Ark., Gregory T. Bowen and his wife Tonya, of Quanah, Texas, Natalie D. Blades, of Waco, Michael King and his wife Christian, of Bryan; grandchildren, Ashlin Blades, Brianne Koval and her husband Matthew, Cody Bowen, Marissa Bowen, and Gracie Blades; great-grandchildren, his mother-in-law, Mary Perrone; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Brazos Valley.

Lyn was always ready to help any golfer, he replaced several golf club shafts for me, after my club "slipped" from my hands during a round of golf at Pebble Creek. You will be missed.
