Born in Pueblo to Kenneth & Priscilla McCabe, Marty was a proud Colorado native: alum of Centennial H.S. and CU Boulder (Kappa), she was an early Aspen ski bum (c. 1952). Married to fellow Puebloan Warren Elliott in 1953, they relocated the growing family to Potomac MD in 1956. In 1968, Aetna called and Hartford CT became home. In 1984, she and lifelong friend Deidre Wolach opened MarDei's B&B in Frisco, CO. She was the live-in proprietor, making beds, breakfast, and a host of friends. Following a stint back east from 1988-91, Denver became her home and heart for the last 3+ decades. She had an indomitable spirit and left a lasting impression on all those whose lives she touched. Smart, funny, stylish - she loved books, bridge, crosswords, art, and travel, and she was a lifelong learner and volunteer. Preceded in death by siblings Marilyn Gower, June Hatton and Ken McCabe, she is survived by children Mark, Winthrop, Byron (Karen) Elliott, and Carrie (Brian) McManus, her adored 'grands' James, Kenneth & Nicole Elliott, Connor (Molly) and Ryan McManus, and many beloved nieces and nephews. A celebration of her life will be held on September 24th at the Wright Room (Masonic Building at 16th & Welton) from 1-4pm. Dear Family of Martha ~ I was reminiscing about my time at United Bank & Trust in Hartford CT and of course, I immediately thought of Martha. I so enjoyed getting to know Martha then. I was a tender age of 21 and Martha looked after me. Martha taught me so much about how to be an excellent employee and how to "always do what you say you'll do!" She gave me a notebook to keep myself accountable. I use this method to this day. I am 62.
My birth name is Maria Lisa but because of Martha, I sign my name M. Lisa. She was a wonderful woman. I am sorry for your family's loss. Blessings to you all. M. Lisa Oakes Poole
