M. E. "Pitt" Sandridge
M. E. "Pitt" Sandridge, 91, of Fishersville, and formerly of Charlottesville, died Friday, May 23, 2008, at the Shenandoah Nursing Home in Fishersville.
Born December 16, 1916, in Mechums River, Virginia, he was the son of the late E.A. Sandridge and Lelia Baber Sandridge. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Minnie Dorrier Sandridge, the mother of his son, Gene; and a sister, Garnett Lee Sandridge.
Pitt retired from the CandO Railroad as Trainmaster with over 40 years of service. He was a member of Hinton Avenue United Methodist Church and a former member of the Elks.
Surviving him are his wife, Barbara Sandridge of Charlottesville; his son, Gene A. Sandridge and his wife, Judy, of Fishersville; three grandchildren, Angela Tederick and her husband, David, Jeffrey Sandridge and his wife, Amy, and Matthew Sandridge; and six great-grandchildren, R. J., Darlene, Clayton, Kyle, Natalie, and Zachary.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, May 26, 2008, at the Hill and Wood Funeral Home with the Reverend Edward A. Hopkins officiating. Interment will follow at Monticello Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Sunday, May 25, 2008, at the funeral home.
