M.S. Van Hecke

I am a close friend of Vans daughter, Kelley Shaw. Although I didnt have very many opportunities to spend time with him, my family and I had the pleasure of having the Shaws and him to our home for a holiday meal last year, and I got to visit with Van a few other times. I will hold these precious memories of him close to my heart always. May you be flying free with your beloved Faye now. You will be missed.

Van was a credit to his family, his community, his church, and his profession. He set a high standard of excellence in newspaper work and won the respect, admiration, and affection of his colleagues. May he rest in peace. My heartfelt sympathy to all of his family.

As well as his wife, Faye Van Hecke, Van and Faye were special to myself and many others. They were kind, friendly and loving and I called them both Mom & Dad. It was always a pleasure to visit and laugh, especially with Mom, who was especially quick witted.
The world was a better place because of their presence.

Dad, I will always cherish our time together these last few months. We had fun, we shared laughs, and grew closer than ever before. You were one of the sweetest people Ive known, a true gentleman for sure. I love you and Ill miss you always.
