At age 103, Madalyn M. Carter, a lifelong resident of Concord, N.H., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at The CRVNA Hospice House following a wonderful 2 year stay at Granite Ledges. She was born in Penacook, N.H. as the daughter of Rose (McShane) and Hugh Madden. She was predeceased by her husband Lloyd Carter and her sister Barbara M Blalock.

She is survived by her niece and nephews, Janie, Jack and Jim Blalock; her grandniece and nephew, Jackie and Richard Blalock, all from Portsmouth, N.H.; extended family Patty Dautch and Pam Blalock and cousin Kathleen Lewis of D.C.

The family is most grateful for the special friendship and extraordinary care of the Concord VNA, particularly Paula Knight and for her longtime Physician, Una Folan. We would also like to thank her close circle of friends who gave her such joy and comfort.

Maddy, as she was affectionately known, was the popular banker at Mechanics Bank at a time when personal interaction was important. The customers lined up to be greeted by her engaging smile, quick wit, flair for fashion and captivating warmth; qualities that enamored all of those with whom she had contact throughout her incredibly long and full life.

She maintained an extremely active lifestyle and a thirst for knowledge as a voracious reader of all publications, avid sports fan, dedicated parishioner of St. Peter Catholic Church, volunteering at the polls well into her 90's and her daily walks. You would always find her proudly decked out in her special coordinated outfits adorned with tasteful jewelry and hair perfectly permed.

Maddy has touched so many lives in a way impossible to communicate in words; everyone that knew her, loved her; she attracted friends of all ages who were completely mesmerized by her kindness and generosity and now leaves behind the fondest of memories and her iconic spirit which will endure throughout our lives.

A private service for family and close friends will be held at the convenience of the family.

Not sure what to say?

Madalyn was a wonderful person. She was always smiling. Wanted to know how my family is and we'd sit and talk about our families. I have been thinking about her lately. I to a chance to look in the Obituaries and I unflortunately her name came up. So sorry. She was such a joy to know to know her was to love her. She was like a Mom to me.

I am sorry for your loss. May the God of comfort be with you during your time of mourning. Isaiah 61:1,2 ; Matthew 5:4

My mother, Ingrid (Inky) Baines, and Maddy worked together at the bank and were good friends. Maddy was a special friend and I enjoyed visits with her. So sorry for your loss but you enjoyed her for many years. Inky died in 2004 at the age of 89+.

Deepest Sympathy to Madalyn's family ,
Janie , Patty, Jack and Pam , Jim , Richard and Jacqueline, the family that Madalyn adored so much , and the family that loved and took care of Madalyn for a very long time. Thank you for taking care of her.
In the 38 years that I did Madalyn 's hair she only expressed love and respect for you all.
It is with a heavy heart that I write to you today to say how fond of Madalyn that Dick and I were.
With her good sense of humor, her sunny...

My sincere sympathy to the family. I have known Madalyn because of her long time hairdresser who is my sister. The three of us went out to dinner and always had a special time with this beautiful and energized lady. She would frequently ask how my two kids were doing. She was such a smart woman and it was such a pleasure to be with this Special lady.

Offering our deepest condolences at this difficult time.
