New York, New York - Madeline Bunny Barkin passed away October 18, 2023. Madeline ardently loved and celebrated her departed husband Stephen David Barkin.
She was a devoted and adoring mother and grandmother to her daughter Dr. Elizabeth Leight and her family (Husband Nathan Leight, children Lilli and her husband Michael Montague, Jenny, Bruce, and Keith) and to her son Dr. Jeffrey Barkin and his family (wife Joan Belsky Barkin, children Rachel, and Jesse and his wife Hazel).
Madeline was smart, pragmatic, a good raconteur, funny, current, concerned and caring, and at all times a true champion of her family and her sisterhood of lifelong girlfriends. As a survivor, she devoted countless hours comforting others battling breast cancer.
Madeline loved dancing and music, a good laugh, the Big Apple, Broadway and all things New York City.
Madeline ultimately lost a decade long battle with Alzheimer's disease. We will greatly miss her, and we know we are stronger, zestier, and more practical and empathetic for having had Maddy in our lives. Maddy was a true woman of valor.
Private services were held in New York. In Miami, shiva will be Wednesday, October 25, 6:00-8:00pm.
As Maddy would say, "Everything is wonderful." So let's celebrate the memory of a wonderful woman.

My sincere condolences to the family. I always enjoyed seeing her as she truly was so upbeat and happy when we would meet. She used to bring me rugelach (chocolate were the really good ones) when she came to visit. When she developed symptoms of Alzheimer´s it broke my heart. May her memory be a blessing - certainly her life was a blessing.

I knew Maddy many years ago, at Old Oaks. She and Steve were one of the young couples I admired so much. Maddy was a true lady. My condolences to her family.
