Madonna Marie (nee Hocks) Meakin, 89, died peacefully from natural causes on January 20th 2021 at her beloved home on Amelia Island, Florida. She was proceeded in death in 1994 by her husband of 38 years, C. James Meakin Jr. Donna was the third child of four in the Hocks family growing up in North Avondale and then Mt Lookout, Cincinnati. She inherited the attributes of her mother, Marie, with her practical, simple, family and church minded commitments, and that of her father, Harry, with his drive for hard work and frugality. Donna was especially close to her sister, Joan (Tom) Sweeney and shared many tears, sighs, and groans over the antics and mistakes of their combined 14 children. Donna and Jim brought five children into the world and served in leadership positions at their schools, the Cincinnati Tennis Club and Summit Country Day where she attended. Donna allowed ordinary and exotic pets into her household and tolerated numerous car accidents, house parties, and health events that every family has when teenagers transition to adults. Through all this chaos, she somehow thrived and developed a love for tennis, bicycling, St. Xavier HS Soccer, reading, and even pets. She ran a local business for many years, and participated with her friends in tap dancing, sewing, and garden club. When asked what she wanted for her 85th birthday, Katie and Donna picked out a new bicycle at Target and Donna test drove it in the store.
In the final 25 years following Jim's death; she remained committed to her routines of daily exercise, Wednesday volunteer work with The Christ Hospital Spiritual Care office, Mass at either St. Rose, St. Stephens, or Our Lord Christ the King, work at SteinMart, bike rides, tennis, Sunday Bengal Games, Xavier basketball games, and the constant flurry of grandchildren's sporting events.
In the last 19 months while in Hospice Care, she was never alone as she moved to her family home on Amelia Island. Her five children, their spouses and her 14 grandchildren enabled the last months to be filled with laughter, sports watching on TV, walks and days of sunshine. Donna somehow knew this time of care would bring her loving family even closer; while reminding them of the challenging, necessary, and mundane work of chaperoning a loved one as they leave this physical world. As in the past and now in her exit, Donna was slow and steady and one hundred percent reliable, still guiding and teaching her family the importance of faith and love.
Donna is survived by her five children: Molly Ann (Tripp) Rogers III, Dr. Charles James Meakin III (Lindsay Holmes), Timothy Joseph Meakin (Ellen Hall), Dr. Daniel Hocks Meakin (Dr. Linda Heckman) and Kathleen Marie (Jim) Stutz and 14 grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, January 30 at 11 AM at Our Lord Christ the King Catholic Church, masks required. The Funeral Mass will also be livestreamed. To watch, please visit www.olctk.org, select "Visit Church Website", select "Live-Streamed Mass". In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to her parish home, Our Lord Christ the King Catholic Church, 3223 Linwood Avenue, Cincinnati, OH 45226.

Donna was a special gift to all who knew her, and especially loved in Visitation Sewing Group who relied on her wisdom, grace and humor throughout the years. I was present online for the beautiful funeral Mass, a tribute to the work she performed in Christ's name throughout her life. Rest in peace, dear Donna.

I wanted to offer the family my deepest sympathy. Donna will be greatly missed. I enjoyed knowing her and sneaking cookies from the kitchen on Devonshire. What a great lady, great mom and great grandmother. The Meakin family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

What a beautiful smile and spirit. After knowing Donna for 40 years, I would see her at Christ hospital where I was working. When we'd see each other, we'd share a good story, a big smile and laugh, and have lunch from time to time. Her ministry at Christ showed an amazing commitment to her Catholic faith and our patients.
Peace to Chuck, Molly and the rest of the family during this time of transition. Hoping your loss is somewhat relieved by the countless stories, and smiles,...

Donna was our beloved aunt, our Dad's older sister, but even more importantly, a big presence in our own, entire lives. We send blessings to the entire family during this time. With peace and love, Mary Hocks and Rick Hocks.

I was so sad to hear about Aunt Donna's passing. She was such a vivacious person - spiritually, physically and intellectually. She was always so kind, generous and funny! Her warm heart and wonderful sense of humor was so appreciated, and will truly be missed. It is comforting to know that she is with God now.
