Mae was a wonderful courageous woman loved by many

Michael, Madalyn and Rich...I don't need to tell you how amazing your mom/wife was to everyone. She always had such a positive spirit and truly led a life that was one of kindness and love. My last phone conversation with Mae ended with a giggle as I called her "my Southern Mama" (as she looked after/fed/ and made sure my son was okay while taking a respite from the Appalachian trail). Annie (Mae) was more than a shipmate and friend, she was family. I still remember the first time I met her. Her smile beaming from ear to ear, and her hair so wild and curly ~ I told her she reminded me of little orphan Annie and she has been "my Annie" from that day forward. Her smile, laughter, and energy were infectious and her ability to turn a negative into a positive never ceased to amaze me.
