CLEAR LAKE - Mae Caroline (Tibbits) Oswald, 96, of Clear Lake, died Sunday (Sept. 9, 2007) at her daughter's home in Des Moines.
Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St. in Clear Lake, with Lay Pastor Dave Halverson officiating.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorials by be directed to the Good Shepherd Telephone Reassurance Program, Fertile Lutheran Church, Hospice of Central Iowa, and NOCC of Iowa for Ovarian Cancer.
Mae was born July 9, 1911, at Round Lake, Minn., the daughter of Carl and and Carrie (Olson) Slocum. Mae was united in marriage to Bill Tibbits, together they farmed north of Clear Lake. After Bill's death, Mae married Bud Oswald, and they continued to live in Clear Lake.
Mae enjoyed cooking, baking and playing cards, especially hand and foot. She was a member of Countryside Club and attended Fertile Lutheran Church.
Mae is survived by her children, Marlys Pederson, Des Moines, Marlene (Jerry) Jenkins, Longmont, Colo., Larry (Fran) Tibbits, Clear Lake, Betty Lane, Manly, Phyllis Gericke, Cedar Falls, June (Kneeland) Fredrickson, Mason City, Clarice (Jerry) Skyles, Portland, Ore., and Norma VanDen Boush, Ames; 31 grandchildren; 111 great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Mary Oswald, Des Moines; along with several nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
Mae was preceded in death by her parents, children Ronnie, Donnie, Marvin "Snook" and Bob Tibbits; siblings, Charles Slocum, Hazel Minch, Lola McDough, Jennie Garms, Edward "Bud" Slocum, Alyce Jenkins and Edna "Tudy" Saunders; sons- in-law, Maurice Lane, Herb Pederson, and Dutch Gericke; and daughter-in-law, Gladys Tibbits.

Aunt Mae was a special woman who would do anything for anyone and shared so much of herself with those around her. She was always up beat and positive and taught those around her to be the same. Aunt Mae will always hold a special place in our hearts! We will all miss her greatly!

To Our Family
I will always remember the fun we had going to the farm, and getting to stay for our "vacation". Rolling
down the hill,playing in the tenant house, and wading in the cattle's watering bin. Oh, and how could we kids ever forget the homeade ice cream & the hot chocolate sauce that Grandma Mae made! "Cook it a long time, Grandma, so it gets real hard" {which she did}. These are just some of the memories I will always remember!

Words can not even begin to describe the incredible loss this world has endured with the passing of Aunt Mae. She was the most wonderful, sweet and beautiful woman. She always had a smile to share.
