Not sure what to say?

Uncle Mel was a good man with a great sense of humor. My Father was a teacher with Mel for many years at FLHS, our families thoughts are with you.

FLHS Class of '84

My condolences to your entire family. "Uncle Mel" was an inspiration and touched the lives of so many of his students. He is the opitomy of what all teachers should strive to be. His chemistry classes in my junior and senior year inspired me to pursue and achieve my dream of becoming a chemical engineer. He will be missed by all.

I was horrible at Chemistry, however, I enjoyed Uncle Mel's class and his "life talks" I am very sorry for your loss.

Mr. Atkinson was one of my favorite teachers. I enjoyed his class so much that I took Chem 2AP also. He was so much fun at the pep assemblies too, when he put on that wig and directed the band. And his bumper sticker on the water heater was classic. I have thought of him often over the years. I am so sorry for your loss, he was a wonderful teacher and a great man. Dawn Mulkey-Braeseke, FLHS Class of '81....I think of Mr. Atkinson every time I buy iron pills.. (FE) on the periodic table of elements. He was so patient and likable. I never quite got the hang of Chem Study, but he appreciated all of his students. So sorry for your loss.

"Uncle Mel" made a difference in so many lives. He will be missed.
