Dr. Howell was a man of unusual understanding and service to the students at South, as i knew him, and one of unusual modesty and interest in expanding his experience of human adventure a number of years later when, after retirement from the university, he worked for a time as a clerk at the newspaper.
I enjoyed his acquaintance, appreciated his help and friendship when he was a dean, and respected his common sense and willingness to help his students.

Dr. Howell lives on in the fine man he raised in Mack Howell. A very fond memory I have was at Mack and Melissa engagement party at the Howell house and how all of Mack's friends gravitated to his dad with obvious fondness. I admired him and wish I had been able to spend more time with him.

Malcolm and Corrine saw that no one in our family had to lift a finger for the family gathering to follow my dad's funeral. They provided a table full of homemade food so that all the relatives could gather...
