Not sure what to say?

I was privileged to be in the last New Testament class Dr. Tolbert taught at NOBTS. On the last day of class he closed his New Testament, walked around and sat down on the desk, facing all of us wannabe preachers. The remainder of the class was spent sharing his personal story with us. He remembered his profession of faith as a young boy. He concluded by saying, "Friends, I have been a missionary, a pastor, a seminary professor, and I´m about to become a pastor again. But I have never had...

It still feels incredible that planet Earth and those who loved him have endured his absence for six years, since 11/27/2014, the saddest Thanksgiving Day on my journey.

An email arrived yesterday reminding me that Thanksgiving Day is the anniversary of Malcolm's death and inviting me to post on this page. I don't see any posts of recent vintage, which is understandable eight years after Malcolm died. I served as his fellow for three years. On this anniversary of his death, memories bounce around like ping pong balls in a shaken jar. A favorite--Malcolm and me standing in a farm pond bass fishing and chewing Red Man tobacco in rural Mississippi.

As a student at NOBTS in the late 60s I had the privilege of studying New Testament under Dr. Tolbert. I was rooming with Tom Wilkes, who recently passed away, and he noticed that I was studying intensely for Dr. Tolberts class. He mentioned this to Dr. Tolbert, who had the practice of randomly calling on class members to answer a question on the subject studied for the day. Well, Dr. Tolbert called on me the next day, and of course my brain went completely dead. (Thanks, Tom) Dr....

Sharon, what a privilege I had to have known your Dad and Mother - both such great people in the service of Christ, and I treasure every moment spent with them. Your Dad was such a wonderful teacher, preacher & writer. What a legacy he leaves! My deepest sympathy to you and all the family. Sincerely, Gerrie Wilson

So saddened by the death of Dr. Tolbert. I was his Faculty Secretary while he was at Southeastern. He was an inspiration to me and I missed him when he left.

Sharon and Ellen, sorry to hear of your dad's passing. Comforting to know he's with the Lord now wearing all those crowns.

What a legacy he leaves. He will be missed by a family who loves him and many former students who prospered by his teaching and writing.
