Dr. Turner is a longtime friend, and has been a mentor to me, as well. He helped me with the statistical analysis for my Master's thesis in geology, and I always enjoyed reading his humorous emails and forwarded websites. He and his family have been like a second family to me here in the south, and I will miss him. To Aleta, Alexis, Rachel, Leila, and everyone who mourns him, I send my deepest sympathy and love.

Professor Turner became a member of the graduate academic faculty at the Medical College of Virginia upon completion of his Ph.D. program at North Carolina State University. I was his first graduate student in 1958. It was a wonderful and rewarding time. My thesis written under his direction reflected his teachings and his guidance.
