Henry W. Dabney Funeral Home - Ashland Obituary

Mancell Conroy Goodall, affectionately known as "Roy" passed away suddenly on March 18, 2024 in Alexandria, Va. He was born February 19, 1953 to the late Pearl Mines and Lindburgh Washington. He was preceded in death by his son Maurice Smithers.

Roy recently rededicated his life to the Lord and loved reading the Word daily.  Roy possessed a fervent love for books and a relentless thirst for knowledge, exemplifying the essence of a lifelong learner. His dedication to the Alexandra library as a volunteer was so profound that they eventually offered him a position.

He was a loving father, brother, uncle, and friend. He truly loved and admired his children and grandchildren. He loved living life to the fullest. He had a great passion for the Washington Commanders. He enjoyed spending time with his family and close friends. His constant humor brought cheerfulness to everyone in his presence. He cherished family gatherings and embraced those moments with laughter and joy with all those around him.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving children, Detz and Mancy Johnston and Marita Smithers-Keller (Brent); one sister, Sandra Morris (Quincy); two step-brothers, Greg Washington and Damon Braxton; four grandchildren, Patrice and RayQuan Smithers, JayCi and Chance Johnston; two great-grandchildren, Landen Stokes and Ace Smithers; one niece, Quinesha Morris-Rogers; six aunts, Martha Walker, Lorene Tillman (Moses), Mary Johnson (Melvin), Maureen Straws (Lloyd), Lorraine Goodall, Nettie Green, and a host of other relatives and friends. Roy cherished ALL of his cousins dearly and his love for them was unwavering and unconditional. He held the esteemed title of "Patriarch" among his cousins. His remembrance will always be treasured by his devoted friends, Bruce Anderson and Gail Goodall.  Roy will be missed by all who knew him.
