Not sure what to say?

Dr. Laband was special doctor. After my yearly exam, he always gave me a hug and was interested in what was going on in my life. A special doctor for sure!

I only saw him once or twice in 1965, when I was a student at the University of Washington. But something about him so impressed me that I have carried his name and address in my address book all these years. Just today I saw his name again and thought I would look him up, only to find that he has passed. So sorry to all the family. And so glad to see he was so well-loved and appreciated by many, many people. Truly a kind, gifted, and passionate man.

I was trained to do surgery by Dr Laband in 1993 at swedish hospital during my OB/GYN residency. He taught me alot - things I still say to my patients. I send my condolences to his family. He will be missed by many.

Karen, Mannie & Carol (my mom)

Having Mannie as a friend meant so much to my mom Carol. His friendship and care was a sort of backbone to her life. His passion for learning and sharing that knowledge was a bright light in our world. I am so thankful the world brought our families together and allowed us to share his love and friendship.

For several years I only exchanged cordial "good mornings" with Mannie as he grabbed his grapefruit on the way to work. After retirement, he had more time to engage in numerous discussions initiated by articles and editorials in the New York Times, while I cleaned the kitchen. What passion he had for subjects ranging from science to education, religion, philosophy, family, nature, food, books, words, finances, and politics! He addressed all these interests with brutal honesty, depth,...

I worked for Dr Laband in OB at SMC. I am sorry for your loss. You are in my thoughts and prayers. He will remain alive in your memories and hearts.

Karen you are absolutely correct--ther will never be another Mannie!!
My love to all of you as you go through this difficult adjustment and lnow my prayers are with you!

Bob and Mannie, Mar 2009

I worked with Mannie in surgery from 1978 through his retirement from the operating room. Mannie, thank you for all you contributed to your patients and healthcare during your many years of dedicated service. Special thoughts to Karen as she learns how to live in a different way in his earthly absence. For the family and friends, may you find peace and laughter as he asked for you to "Miss me but let me go". The photo is of my husband Bob and Mannie as they enjoyed each other's company.
