Manuel (Cuate) Evaro, age 74, peacefully passed away April 14, 2014. Cuate Manuel was born May 27, 1939 in La Mesa into a family of 12; it being reported he was number 8 or depending on who told the tale, number 9. Manny will remember him by his "signature" mustache or the mischievous twinkle in his eyes as he told his stories or expressed his opinions. As a proud Marine, he made sure all knew the motto "Semper Fi". He served in the Navy Reserve, was a Vietnam War Veteran and was very active in the VFW Post 4384 and the Marine Corps and American Legions. He was very patriotic and a strong advocate for all veterans - his comrades. He had a lifelong passion for fishing, hunting, camping, big bonfires - where his famous cowboy coffee was made, reading, doing crossword puzzles, drawing amazing pictures and arguing with all sports fans (we all knew that the Dallas Cowboys was not a subject to bring up!). He was a force to be reckoned with, he had a heart of gold, and he would give you the shirt off his back. As a handyman he tried to fix or recycle everything! He was very good at causing a ruckus and then making us laugh until we cried. Manny retired from NMSU in December 2013. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-four years, Estella Avalos Evaro of the family home; two daughters, Sylvia Orme (Dave Thune) and Leticia Evaro; three grandsons, John Soto, Zachary Soto and Alejandro Evaro; daughter-in-law Consuelo Evaro; sisters Damicia Chavez, Bernadette Cano, Sara Carrasco, Frances (Edward) Avalos, Kila (George) Sanchez, Mary (Juanito) Acosta; brothers, Cuate Rudolph (Margaret) Evaro and Albert (Matilda) Evaro; sisters- in-law Ester and Dolores Evaro. He was preceded in death by his son, Lawrence M. Evaro, his parents, two brothers and a sister. Visitation for Mr. Evaro will begin at 6 PM Monday, April 21, 2014 in San Jose Catholic Church, 353 E. Josephine Street in La Mesa where the Prayer Vigil is scheduled for 7 PM. The Holy Mass of Resurrection will be held at 10AM Tuesday, April 22, 2014 in Saint Genevieve Catholic Church, 100 S. Espina Street with the Reverend Ron Burke, Celebrant. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 5140 W. Picacho Avenue where he will be laid to rest. Military Honors will be accorded by United States Marine Corps Honor Guard and the Marine Corps League – El Perro Diablo Detachment. Fellowship will follow immediately at Saint Genevieve Parish Hall. Serving as casket bearers will be Tommy Chavez, Ruben Sedillo, Frankie Benavidez, Albert Evaro, Jimmy Flores and Gilbert Avalos. Honorary bearers will be Michael Nevarez, Kenneth Avalos, Luis Carrasco, Michael Avalos, Rudy Evaro, Joe Gomez, Chuy Gonzalez and Victor Lucero. Service arrangements have been entrusted to Baca's Funeral Chapels, 300 E. Boutz Road, Las Cruces. 527-2222 Your exclusive providers for "Veterans and Family Memorial Care." Not sure what to say?

11 Years Without You It´s hard to believe it´s been 11 years since you left us. Not a day goes by that we don´t think of you, miss you, or feel the space your absence left in our lives. You were more than a best friend - you were family, our laughter, our strength, our light. We carry you in our hearts, in our memories, and in everything we do. We love you more than words can say, and we miss you every single day. Jesus and Angie

Tia, I'm sorry for your loss. He is with the rest of the rest of the EVARO'S having a wonderful time.

Sylvia and Evaro family. My deepest sympathy, thoughts, and prayers on your tremendous loss. I know how painful it is to lose a great dad and, for your mom, a life partner. Hang on to those special memories and be strong for each other in the days to come. Your "old" WSMR friend.

Estella, Sylvia and Leticia please accept my deepest condolences on the loss of Cuate. He truly was an interesting man. If he was talking one could rest assured the tail would be interesting or end in a punch line.....May the good Lord give you strength during this very trying time. God Bless you all

Stella & Family, may God give you strength, comfort & peace during this difficult time. Manny will be greatly missed. He was always a breath of fresh air with his smile and great sense of humor. Estella, Sylvia, Albert and the entire Evaro Family. Our deepest condolences go out to all of you. Makes me so sad to read this obituary. I am sorry we weren't able to attend the services. Our hearts and prayers are with all of you. We were given the privilege to attend a Marine Corp Ball with Manny. We will never forget the great time we had. May God bless you all and give you strength during this difficult time. "Semper Fi"

May all of God's blessings be with the family for I know Manny has gone on to glory. He will always be a good friend and I look forward to seeing him when my journey begins. Know that your family and him are in my prayers .
