On Saturday, November 19, 2022, Marc Kaschke, a beloved son, husband, father, brother and friend passed away at age 49. He was born to Orville and Mary (Nicholas) Kaschke in North Platte on January 2, 1973.
Marc earned his economics degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and went on to Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management to earn his M.B.A.
His passion for business started at a young age. He worked at his parents’ John Deere dealership and sold sweet corn during the summer as a child, and in his college years he opened a used CD store before going on to invest in several technology startups.
Marc’s dedication to public service started with an internship with Senator Exon and a run for state legislature. He served as Mayor of North Platte from 2008 to 2012. While Mayor, he appointed Police Chief Swain, implemented the pilot project for the brick streets downtown North Platte, renewed North Platte’s Quality Growth fund, and established the Splash pad at Memorial Park. He supported youth and public education across the state.
Marc’s intellectual curiosity and zest for life was key to his success as a lifelong entrepreneur, business owner, investor and coach on leadership. Marc was a world traveler, avid history reader, writer, artist and Husker fan.
Marc is survived by his wife of 14 years Kimberley, five children: Jordan, Ashi (husband Ben and grandchildren Asher and August), Camden, Gracelyn, Lexus, parents Orville and Mary, sister Tami, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins and countless friends.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at Harvest Christian Fellowship Church with Pastor Jeremy Rinke officiating. Burial will follow at North Platte Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 22nd from 12 to 7 p.m., with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which has been entrusted with the arrangements.
The family requests memorials be directed to the Marc Kaschke Fund at the Mid Nebraska Community Foundation or ALS of the Heartland, which supports individuals with Primary Lateral Sclerosis (PLS).

I just learned of Marc’s passing. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. I was fortunate to have met and spent 3 weeks as a roommate during our National League of Cities trip to Germany in 2009. I feel so fortunate to have met Marc and shared that once in a lifetime experience with him and the other colleagues. I feel bad that I didn’t make a better effort in keeping in touch.

It was hard to learn the news that Marc had passed. He was a great fellow student of Leadership Omaha, Class 25. Marc was a provider of great energy and great thinking echoed by his kind nature. He will be greatly missed.

I am shocked and sad to hear of Marc's passing. I got to know him when he was Mayor, and we worked on renewing the North Platte Quality Growth fund. Later I visited with him when he starting up a local business in Omaha. My memory of Marc is that he was a thoughtful Nebraskan. My thoughts and prayers are with Kim and family.
