Saphian, Marceline, age 93, passed away May 12th after a brief illness. Preceded in death by her son David and husband Russell, she is survived by her beloved daughter, Melissa (Tony) Cheevers, and three grandchildren she adored, Alex Gorsuch, Eliot Saphian and Olivia Saphian, dear brother Walter (Marilyn) Williams and many dear nieces, nephews, and friends.


Marcy worked alongside her husband in their optometric office, Ballwin Eyes Associates for over 45 years. She was active in her church Des Peres Presbyterian for 26 years and most recently at Eliot Unitarian Chapel. She was a member in good standing with the Saint Louis Artist Guild for over 50 years and has made many wonderful friends within the art community. Marcy will be remembered for her kindness and generosity and love for her family and friends.


Services: There will be a private burial for the family on Monday, June 12th at Memorial Park Cemetery. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 11th at 2:00 p.m. followed by a reception at Eliot Unitarian Chapel, 100 S. Taylor in Kirkwood, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to the Humane Society of Missouri, ASPCA, or Southern Poverty Law Center. Russ and Marcie Saphian were our neighbors on Greentrails Dr S for 24 years. They watched our kids grow up and offered us many kindnesses. They were especially friendly when we began to move away in 2009. It took 9 months to sell. The Saphians would come out of their house and talk to me while I sat in my car in their driveway. We would drink coffee together as we watched strangers and real estate estate agents through the windows looking at our house. Later, Marci sent many cards with her...

Marcy was an active and treasured member of Art Saint Louis for more than 30 years. She enriched the St. Louis art community with her prolific creativity and will be sorely missed. With sympathy and respect, Robin, Art Saint Louis.
