Not sure what to say?

Marcia was an inspiration. As a college art student in March of 1990 I was blown away by her landscapes with framing that invited entry into a lovely rich world of light and paint. So full of the pleasure of whimsy, that I was dumbstruck with jaw dropping delight, remembered to this day.Her creatvity by its nature was, contagious to the onlooker, and a special gift. This is a great loss. Mark Safford

Although we were in the same class at Smith College, it was many years later that Marcia and I finally met, in New York, in the art world, and slowly became good friends.

Marcia was a bold and dedicated painter of true accomplishment. She was just as courageous and original in her personal life. She was also loyal and generous and kind. Quirky, yes. Refreshingly frank yet deeply courteous. Great fun to be with (even when we argued...about politics, of course).

Dear Edward and Rollin,
Your mother Marcia was a remarkable lady of great talent and style, as you no doubt know. You gentlemen must surely be exceptional as she was - enhancing life for those around you.

Meeting Marcia just after her arrival in New York, it was a sincere pleasure to share her grace and vivacity with friends, and to introduce her to the magic of the city. Sharing both Texas roots and close June birthdays somehow made it seem preordained that we would be...

Our deepest condolences to Marcia's family. That her beautiful smile will never grace our Broome Street address again is hard to accept. She was one of the most gracious and kindest of friends. I admired most her belief and fortitude in her own vision. Not many artists have that inner confidence to follow their heart. She was an original, and nothing greater can be said of any artist. She will be greatly missed.

To Marcia's family and many friends,

I was fortunate to able to attend Marcia's concurrent retrospective exhibitions in San Antonio in 2009. The outpouring of praise and admiration for Marcia, both as an artist and as a person, were very much in evidence. San Antonio celebrates its own very well, and I'm glad to have been part of those events.

My sincere condolences to Marcia's family and friends, as well as to her beloved hometown for this loss. Smith College has...

Dear Rollin,

Joseph told me of your Mom's passing and I was very sad to hear the news. Joey has told me how close you were to your Mom and what an amazing and talented woman she was. I just want you to know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Mary

I send my deepest condolences to Marcia's sons Edward and Rollin King. Marcia was one of the most intelligent, beautiful and substantial American women of her generation. She was a model of integrity and grace in everything she did.
Her concern, dedication and inspiration in sharing life with her grandchildren was paramount in her creative life.
She wanted them to gain great intellectual and artistic insight into art, life, and the foundations of civilization.
I was fortunate to...
