Dear Roger, Wendy and Theo. I was one of Marcia's youngest cousins--there were 26 years between us--since her Mom, Hattie, was my dad Lester's oldest sibling. When I was young, she used to visit my folks in Massachusetts, never failing to leave me breathless by her energy and passion for life. Dear Roger and Wendy, I just found out from Margaret Freeman that your wonderful Mom passed away. I have so many great memories, 1985 when she had me sleep in her digs in Boston for the first Early Music Festival, many concerts here in LA, collaborations both in music and Emily Dickinson and of course her favorite, George Eliot. She was so proud of Teo and his wonderful voice.

This beautiful obituary so truly captures Marcia in all her glory. She was always, and will continue to be a great inspiration to me in so many ways. I'm so sad to read that she never finished her work on George Eliot, and hope that it will someday, and somehow be made available for people to read in whatever form it stopped growing.

Dear Roger, Wenday, and Theo, My condolences on Marcia's passing and the long struggle with alzheimer's. She inspired me by weathering the terrible obstacle of arthritic hands by shifting from piano performance to become a brilliant lecturer and researcher. Like her classmate Leonard Bernstein, she reached out to audiences with the inside stories, the history, and the anecdotes of the great classical composers and performers.
