Marcus Willem De Geer, DC, MD, of Valley Park, MO, passed away unexpectedly on March 19, 2025, at the age of 65. He was born in Stockholm, Sweden on August 16, 1959, to parents Willem and Nina De Geer.
Marcus, or “Pappa”, as he was affectionately known, is survived by his loving wife, Jamie; his former wife, Angelica; his children, Sebastian (Lindsay), Christopher (Veronica), Emelie, and Jonathan; his stepchildren, Rachael (William) and Jake; his grandchildren, Lillian, Cora, Svea, and Jack; and his step grandchildren, Bella and Liam. He was preceded in death by Willem and Nina De Geer.
Marcus shone as a professor at Logan University’s Doctor of Chiropractic program, where he touched the lives of thousands during his 23-year tenure. He was beloved by colleagues and students for his expansive wealth of knowledge (he taught classes ranging from Internal Disorders I and II to Obstetrics/Gynecology), unyielding kindness, and dry sense of humor. He won the Outstanding Faculty Award on numerous occasions, for which he was particularly honored.
An ambitious learner, Marcus earned his Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree at Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, Bachelor of Arts in Music at University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, and Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) degree at Logan University. He was proud to officially become a U.S. citizen in 2016.
Marcus was many things to a lot of people. His family will warmly remember him as a loving, compassionate, humble, loyal, patient and persistent man, who had a deep and unwavering faith in Christ. He had a laugh (and sneeze) that could light up a room. He never ceased in his pursuit of learning. An accomplished piano player (his passion began at the age of eight), one of his dreams was to become a professional pianist. Though he was ultimately convinced to pursue a career in medicine, one could always find him focused on the piano at home, mastering complex classical arrangements. He also shared his gifts as a pianist with Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Manchester, MO, where he met his future wife, Jamie. Together, they played, sang and served the church community and beyond, sharing their talents and their love for music and ministry with the world. Marcus was also fond of cooking, having mastered elaborate dishes and sauces at an early age. His “lussekatter” were a marvel to behold during the holidays. He especially enjoyed various fitness journeys, and he had a deep admiration for film - especially Bergman, Hitchcock, Kubrick and Fellini - as well as a love for the music that ultimately gave films their magic. He was an avid explorer of history. And he rarely turned down an opportunity to travel with his favorite adventure partner, Jamie, whether hopping a cruise or jetting away to their favorite resort in Cancún, Mexico. One of his favorite TV genres was British comedy (think Fawlty Towers with John Cleese), and, of course, he had his favorite show, Frasier, where his famous laugh would blurt out no matter how many times he had watched an episode. Above all else, his family loved watching and hearing him play the piano, especially when they gathered around to sing Christmas carols together. And, of course, his hugs were legendary.
He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, friend, teacher, and mentor. He was a beautiful human being and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Marcus was my voice student who loved to sing the great repertoire. (It was always fun to talk about music and the great Swedish tenor, Jussi Bjorling.)
He helped me out by playing for worship services and concerts.
He was always a joy and a blessing.
And now he is at rest and in glory.
Glory to our gracious King!

Marcus was our neighbor and father to our son’s closest friends. Many days were enjoyed watching the kids jump on the trampoline, play outdoor games, and watch videos from Schnucks. The DeGeer kids are lifelong learners because of Marcus’ example. There is no kinder and talented person that comes to mind. Marcus DeGeer, Renaissance Man. Love you Marcus.
