Marcus Vanderlaan

I had the good fortune to know and work with Marcus as a law clerk and an attorney after having been represented by his firm as a conscientious objector during the Vietnam War. He was the most persistent and patience person I have ever met. He was dedicated to his clients, even a deranged one who tried to physically assault him in his office! Most of all, he was a incredibly honest, caring and modest man while being a dogged advocate. I am honored to have known Marcus.

Marcus Vanderlaan! I had the pleasure of being a legal secretary at a lawfirm where he practiced, and he would announce one's entry into the office by trumpeting one's first and last names! What a fine and memorable man. He kept what he called a terror list, consisting of rather unpleasant tasks he had to face each day. He is unforgettable. My sincere condolences.

While I worked for opposing counsel in the legal office of the San Juan USD, Marcus was always polite and easy to work with. He was a class act. He took time in a very busy schedule to show his set of very old law books to me during a visit to his office. The pride was so evident in his eyes. He loved what he did. You always knew where you stood with him. Robin, my heart and thoughts are with you.

Marc was one of the staunches advocates for teachers I've ever met. He was a frustrating adversary, because he left no stone or pebble unturned in his representation. He said he practiced law like he boxed - throw enough punches and some are bound to connect. I learned a lot from him, and came to respect him immensely. My condolences to his family.
