I was very sad to hear the news of Mardye's passing. We played ball together at Murphy and our team was the first undefeated team (regular season) in the school's history. He was beautiful to watch run and he always did so with an infectious, heartfelt smile on his face. When it came time to decide where to continue his education and playing career, Claude Saia of Auburn told him he just wasn't fast enough to make the grade. Coach Shaw immediately shifted gears and got him to Miss. State....
