Margaret, I miss you. You always had time for me. You were the best mother I ever had.

Memories of Margaret are deeply embedded and serve as an inspiration to this day. We are in a very challenging time in which the world has been transformed by SARS-CoV-2 with more than 100,000 deaths in the US due to COVID-19. New Orleans and many communities across the US and the world have been deeply impacted. Although we all miss Margaret deeply, I am glad that Margaret did not have to experience this. I first met Margaret in 1974 when I was applying for a teaching position in Orleans Parish Prison. At the time she was Director of Counseling in the Rehabilitation Department. To reach Margaret's office, I was first frisked by security, then guided through prison gates to the elevator.
