Margaret "Peggy" Golden Donahue, 87, of Vestavia Hills, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 5, 2017, after a long illness. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Joseph Donahue; son, Joseph Donahue, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Janice Holmes Donahue; parents, Catherine and Thomas Golden; brothers, Thomas, Michael and Joseph Golden; and sister, Anna Marie Golden.
She was blessed with a large and loving family. Survivors include her children, Tim Donahue (Diane); Tom Donahue, Marianne Smith (Robert); and Tricia Vice (Mike). Left to treasure her memory are grandchildren, Jennifer Thomas, Joseph Donahue III (Katie) ,Tim Donahue, Jr., Elizabeth Veres (Nick), Robert and Ryan Smith, Sarah and Claire Donahue, Margaret Ann, Mary Kate and Michael Vice; great-grandchildren, Anna Grace and Hayes Thomas, Maddie and Joseph Donahue IV.
Peggy was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA, attending Corpus Christi Elementary School and Hallahan High School where she was class president.
She was a devout Catholic who treasured her faith in God. She served as a CCD teacher, was a member of the hospitality committee and a member of St. Elizabeth's Guild. She also served on the board at John Carroll High School. She was active with Meals on Wheels until her stroke in 2001.
Peggy loved her family, her friends, her trips to the beach and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be held at St. Peter's Catholic Church at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 8, 2017, with a funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Peter's Catholic Church.

Peggy was a loving and very kind person. I met her when I first moved to Birmingham in 1965 at St. Peter's Church in Hoover. We had children at Our Lady of Sorrows in Homewood and we would always find time to have a little visit. She will be missed.
