Not sure what to say?

I will always remember, as one of her Ph.D. students, the consulting trip for an evening workshop which she conducted 100 miles from SU. Our conversations were the most enlightening ones I ever had with a professor at any level. She made no bones about the fact that her students should meet high expectations. I drew on those conversations in the courses I taught at all levels over the next decades.

I learned so much about reading and language arts from Margaret Early. But today I'm remembering her advice about our #1 priority. "Remember, Steve," she'd say, "it's all about the kids." Throughout my professional life and in challenging school situations, I've heard her voice and those words. Dr. Early, on behalf of the kids, thank you.

Tomorrow I start a new school year in a year-round school. As I read aloud to my seventh grade students, I will remember Dr. Early who was my true introduction to children's literature. She inspired me and in turn my children, grandchildren and students to read, read, read.

Margaret was such a gentle person and yet so acclaimed by everyone who met her. We will miss her.

I am writing to share my condolences on the passing of Margaret Early. As someone who had an outstanding career as an educator, Dr. Early represents the model of what we hope for Boston University graduates. She was a 1994 recipient of the Ida M. Johnson Distinguished Alumni Award, but the comments on her quest page are the tributes that honor her well. The consistent theme of engaged teaching and outstanding mentor provide inspiration for us all. As the incoming Dean of the School of...

I owe my success in teaching to my mentor, Margaret Early.

What a lovely person. Margaret Early represented our profession with intellect, style and grace. Would that we had more like her today!

It was my privilege and honor to represent Margaret on Saturday morning in awarding $126,900 in scholarships to six wonderful Fowler H.S. graduates. Margaret's generosity is an inspiration to us all.

I had the pleasure to work for Dr. Early in the 1980's while at the University of Florida in the Departmen of Instruction and Curriculum. To work for a woman of such integrity and intelligence was an honor. She will be greatly missed by all.
