Margaret Haigler Obituary

Margaret "Peggy"Jelks Haigler

December 15, 1937 - May 9, 2024

Raleigh, North Carolina - Margaret Jelks Williamson Haigler (Peggy), 86, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend to countless neighbors and confidantes peacefully went to be with her Heavenly Father on Thursday, May 9, in Raleigh, NC. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Mars Hill, NC, on December 15, 1937, and raised in Winnsboro, SC, Ware Shoals, SC, and Greenville, SC. Peggy grew up a marvel of a dancer and entrepreneur, establishing her own booming dancing school at the age of fourteen. Upon graduation from Wake Forest University, she started her family, and for the next sixty-four years created and cultivated a true and welcoming home--bursting with love, beauty, belonging, fun, and feasting--for all her family and friends.

Nicknamed "MiMi" by her grandchildren who cherished her and "Peglet" by her lifelong friends, Peggy loved to travel, read, play challenging card games that spanned hours, spend long days on the beach, decorate (especially for Christmas), and cook gorgeous and delectable meals. She was a spectacular bridge player who traveled across the country to compete with some of the most formidable competitors in the world and was honored to receive the rank of Diamond Life Master from the American Contract Bridge League.

Peggy was known for her disarming sense of humor and distinctly contagious laugh, and no one adored or tirelessly championed their spouse, children, grandchildren, or great grandchildren more. To be with "MiMi" was to be enveloped by love, joy, comfort, and home.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Mickey Williamson, and her husband, Ted Haigler, Jr.. She is survived by her children Chuck (Clinton) Duncan and Joe (Kristen) Duncan as well as Mickey's children: Tommy (Lisa) Williamson and Paula Williamson and Ted's children: Ted (Beth) Haigler, Becky (Mitchell) WerBell, Lee (Roy) Taylor, and Harvey Haigler.

No one will miss MiMi more than her grandchildren: Chase (Mario Asencio), Carter, Jelks, Grey and Chandler Duncan as well as Nicole and Brandon Rossicci and Jennifer and Stephen Williamson and Amanda Williamson Peoples. In addition: Tavener (Craig) Parker, Ted (MaryScott) Haigler, IV, Lupton (Katie) Haigler, Mitch (Kate) WerBell, Wesley (Carina) Taylor, Zach (Katie) Taylor, Hillary (TJ) Beach, and Elizabeth Haigler; and her great-grandchildren: Luca and Miles Rossicci, Hudson Gullie, Phillip and Audrey Peoples, Eliza Craig and Gilliam Parker, Eloise, Theodore V "Bear", and Cecelia Haigler, Waverly Haigler, Miles and Maddie Taylor and Theo Beach.

A graveside service and celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, May 22nd, at 1pm at Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts be made in Peggy's honor to Transitions Life Care, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607.

Services are entrusted Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 Saint Mary's St., Raleigh, NC.
