AUBURN-Margaret M. (McKie) Hayes, 88 of Arrowhead Ave., died Wednesday, July 24 after an illness.

Her husband, James D. Hayes died in 1970.

She leaves a daughter, Margaret C. Hayes of Auburn; a son, James D. Hayes, II of Quincy; a brother, John L. McKie of Sherman, Tx; and six nieces and nephews. Her sister, Catherine S. Dickinson of Auburn died in 1999.

She was born in Ferniegair, Hamilton, Scotland the daughter of the late Peter A. and Isabella (Sillars) McKie and came to the US in 1925. She became a citizen in 1944. SHe graduated from Commerce High School in Worcester and the Holden District Hospital School of Nursing, Holden.

Mrs. Hayes had worked as a registered nurse for many years, first as a private duty nurse and later at the former Holden District Hospital, Holden and then at St. Vincent's Hospital, Worcester.

She was a member of the First Congregational Church and the Stella Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star.

Her funeral will held on Monday July29, at 10 AM in the First Congregational Church, 128 Central St., Auburn. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Auburn.

Calling hours at the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St., Auburn are Sunday, July 28 from 5-8 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mercy Centre, 25 West Chester Street, Worcester 01605 or to the First Congregational Church, 128 Central Street, Auburn 01501.
