Margaret Mehring

Margaret was a great inspiration to me. The Filmic Writing program she created was ahead of its time. I was privileged to have her as a teacher and mentor.

Margaret's contribution to my life has been immeasurable. She had an uncanny knack for the craft of education. The Filmic Writing program, created under her aegis was the first and only school of its kind, unique and precious. Margaret Mehring was the First Person, other than my own sister Deborah, who ever--ever--looked at me and my writing and said I was talented.

I first met Margaret during the 1988 Democratic campaign when we were all working for Michael Dukasis's election. By the time I ran as the Democratic candidate for State Assembly in 1992, it was clear that any liberal candidate who sought votes in Los Osos only needed to go to Margaret, whose organization skills were already legendary. She inspired volunteers in that community to work, and she personally took responsibility to introduce candidates whom she liked to her friends and fellow...

Margaret Mehring lived an exceptional life. She was an instrument instructing and enlightening diverse peoples all over the world. I'm astounded by the boundaries she exceeded and the influence she wielded. There was a fire in her heart to better the world, and the ways in which she did so are countless and beautiful. I am inspired to use my life so well. I am grateful for the generosity of her spirit. I aspire to be part of her legacy. With Love and Admiration,

I will miss Margie a lot. She was always interested in what I had to say, and made me want to talk even when I didn't feel like it. I was really surprised by hearing of all her political exploits because I can't remember a single conversation we had about politics! She could leave off the things she knew best and still have more to say than most people. I'll miss her.
