Colonial Funeral Homes - Brick Obituary

Margaret “Peggy” (Norton) Moriarty of Lakewood, NJ died peacefully on March 7, 2022 at the age of 85.  Peggy was born and raised in Jersey City, NJ, where she graduated from Our Lady of Victories and, later, from Holy Family Academy in Bayonne, NJ.  She continued to raise her family in Jersey City while working as an executive administrative assistant in the Department of Educational Services at New Jersey City University (formerly Jersey City State College) and while being a parishioner of Our Lady of Mercy RC Church.  She later retired to Leisure Village East in Lakewood, NJ, where she joined Saint Dominic’s parish in Brick, NJ and devoted much of her time helping others through various charitable organizations.

Peggy touched many lives.  One of her many gifts was the ability to maintain long-lasting friendships, including those with her lifelong “sisterhood” of fellow Our Lady of Victories and Holy Family alumnae, her longtime Jersey City family of friends, and the many Leisure Village friends she met in retirement.  For Peggy, every family event—be it a birthday, an anniversary, or a graduation—meant a large gathering.

Peggy was predeceased by her husband, Francis; daughter, Carolyn; and parents, Luke and Anna (Frommer) Norton.  Surviving her are her daughter, Laura Moriarty of Red Bank, NJ; daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth (Moriarty) and Anthony LaPorta of Clark, NJ; son and daughter-in-law, Francis and Lisa (Gaffney) Moriarty of Lincroft, NJ; and three grandsons, Anthony LaPorta, Luke LaPorta, and John Moriarty.  She is also survived by her dearest sister-in-law, Dolores Moriarty of Sharpsburg, MD, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Viewing hours will be from 3:00pm to 8:00pm on March 10, 2022 at Colonial Funeral Home, 2170 Highway 88, Brick, NJ 08724.  Please note masks are required for the viewing and social distancing protocols should be followed. Funeral services will begin at 9:00am March 11, 2022 at the funeral home followed by a 10:00am Funeral Mass at Saint Dominic RC Church, 250 Old Squan Road, Brick, NJ 08724.  Interment will follow in Saint Joseph’s Cemetery, 56 Cedar Grove Road, Toms River, NJ 08753.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Peggy’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or www.stjude.org.

Not sure what to say?

I am saddened at the loss of Aunt Peg, but happy knowing she is with God and no longer suffering pain and agony. She was a wonderful person, a great Aunt to my wife Mariam Moriarty. She was so welcoming when we visited her in New Jersey. I send heartfelt condolences to the entire family.
