Margaret Payne Obituary

Margaret Mary Chandler Payne, (aka Maggie, Mama, Grandma and Aunt Peg) died peacefully in Grapevine, TX, on January 15, 2018, at the age of 87. Margaret is survived by her three sons, Daniel Martin, Blake Edward and Michael Thomas; daughters-in-law, Kathy Hurysz Payne, Danette Campeaux Payne; her grandchildren Danielle Elizabeth, Ryan Chandler, Shannon, Sadie, Sara, and Sean. She is preceded in death by her husband Bura Blake Payne and her brother William C. Chandler. Margaret was born on August 22, 1930, in Brooklyn, NY, to Mary Ada Conner and Charles Warner Chandler. She graduated from Bowling Green State University with a Master's Degree in Education. She married Bura Blake (BB) Payne and moved to New Orleans, La., in 1961. After moving, Margaret began her career as a teacher, PE coach and volleyball coach in Jefferson Parish schools. She began at Ursuline Academy, followed by Worley Junior High and ending with 30 years at Grace King HS, in Metairie, where she took her volleyball team to the state finals, at least one year. Margaret was accomplished at being an excellent wife, Mom, Grandma, Coach and Teacher. She also took pride in her outstanding involvement and service to the Catholic Church, including the Nativity of our Lord parish in Kenner. Margaret was the most passionate, fun-loving individual who enjoyed expressing her love in many ways. Singing in the church choir, spending time with family, traveling (especially to Disney World) and cheering on her beloved Saints football team. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at LEITZ-EAGAN Metairie on Friday, January 19, 2018, at 2:00. Visitation will begin at 10:00 in the morning. Interment will follow in All Saints Mausoleum within Metairie Cemetery, New Orleans. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Alzheimer's Foundation (www.alz.org). An online guestbook is available at www.leitzeaganfuneralhome.com.
