Margaret C. Varone, 84, of Cumberland, passed away peacefully with her family by her side Saturday, December 6, 2025. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Varone and the late Matthew Clancey. “Marge” was born in Providence, the daughter of the late Francis J. and Bertha L. (Flynn) Lavin.


Marge grew up in in the Edgewood section of Cranston, attended St. Paul’s School and graduated from Cranston East High School. She also obtained her associates degree in Computer Programming. Throughout her life, Marge held a variety of professional roles-including bookkeeper and accounts systems manager. She previously worked as a district manager for Howard Johnson Restaurants. Marge was known as a “Jack of All Trades”; there was nothing that she attempted that she could not do. She was knowledgeable in many different areas including home improvements, tax accounting, auto mechanics, computer programming and gardening. It gave her much joy to cook and feed her family and friends. Marge loved dogs and fostered many throughout her life, later becoming a professional dog sitter for pups, including her beloved grand dog, Teddy.


She is survived by her daughter, Regina Bamford and her husband James of North Attleboro; her son Edward Varone; four grandchildren whom she loved dearly, Alexandra Moschella and her husband Richard of Worcester, Jake Bamford and his wife Annie of New York City, Graham Bamford and his fiancé, Nicole Lewis of Boston, and Edward Varone. She was the proud great-grandmother of Rosemary and Lucia Moschella. She was the sister of three brothers; the late Francis Lavin Jr., John Lavin, and William Lavin. Margaret will be missed by many friends, her caring neighbors, and compassionate caregivers.


Relatives and friends are kindly invited to a Mass of Christian Burial Thursday, December 11, 2025 at 10:00 AM at St. John Vianney Church, 3655 Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday from 4:00-7:00 PM in the O’Neill Funeral Home, 3102 Mendon Road, Cumberland.
