Broomhead Funeral Home - Riverton Obituary

Margaret Wardle was born to Marcel and Frances Lauper on August 19, 1947. She passed away peacefully March 9, 2021 at her home in Sandy, Utah.

Margaret grew up in San Leandro, California, with three sisters and one brother. She grew up eager to learn everything, absolutely loved music, and helped out at the family-owned Lauper Furniture store.

Margaret came to Utah to attend BYU. She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Music in 1969. She loved her study of Latin, and she played the flute in BYU's Philharmonic. She married LaMont Wardle in 1969, in the Salt Lake Temple, having met earlier at school. They traveled a lot at the beginning of their marriage with LaMont being a pilot in the Air Force. She was patriotic and supported his military career. They lived in Texas, California, Washington, and finally settled back in Utah in 1975. LaMont built the two homes that they lived in, and Margaret had a big role in designing them! Due to her lifelong love of music, their first furniture purchase was a piano, not a sofa or table.

Community and church service were very important to Margaret. She worked with the Primary, Young Women, and Relief Society organizations in many capacities. She led Regional choirs at the Tabernacle and was a Choir Director and Music Chairman for both the ward and stake. She also directed several plays and community musical productions.

Margaret was a substitute teacher when her kids were in school and would do occasional catering for weddings and parties. She loved cooking, but baking was her specialty, and her wedding cakes and birthday cakes were legendary. Margaret’s love and attention always centered around her kids and grandkids. She was tireless in creating magical Christmas memories with home-made toys and hand-painted dolls every year, showering every child with love and joy. She spent many hours at the sewing machine, not only mending and hemming, but sewing activity books, making blankets and quilts, hair bows, doll sets and school clothes for her family. She was an ardent supporter of every music concert, play, scouting event, parade, gymnastics meet, martial arts event, tennis match, football and baseball game, and award ceremony. She wouldn’t have missed anything for the world, and we will terribly miss her presence.

She had four daughters, Lynette, Rebecca, Alyson, and Whitney. Her family has grown to have four sons-in-law, and 10 grandchildren. Her grandchildren have been a source of her greatest joy. She has loved them dearly and doted on them at every opportunity.

Margaret is survived by her husband of 52 years, LaMont, their four daughters Lynette (Chad), Rebecca (Jay), Alyson (Shane), Whitney (Gerald), and her ten grandchildren Timothy, Taylor, Bryton, Ashton, Paxton, Payton, Kayson, Kayley, Zoey and Brayden. She is preceded in death by her parents Marcel and Frances Lauper, and sister Diane.

A viewing will be held from 6-8 pm on Thursday, March 18, 2021 at Broomhead Funeral Home in Riverton. Funeral services will begin at 11 am on Friday, March 19, 2021. There will be a viewing prior to the funeral from 9:30-10:30 am. Services will be held at the Crescent 8th Ward Chapel located at 2080 E. Pinecrest Lane, Sandy, Utah.

Not sure what to say?

LaMont, we express our most sincere condolences to you and your daughters for the loss of Margaret. She will be greatly missed but we know that the day is not far distant when you will have a glorious reunion with her.

I remember going with John and Lory to visit Margaret in their home in Utah. She was so fun and taught Lory and I how to make home made Twinkie's! Such a great homemaker!

Teleflora's Soft And Tender Bouquet

We send our condolences LaMont. She was a sweetheart, had a great sense of humor and was so talented! I'll never forget the beautiful cake she made for me so my little primary girls, which included Alyson, could surprise me on my birthday. Our virtual hugs and prayers are with you all.

Our condolences. She was a wonderful and caring person.

I have many wonderful memories, but I'll start with this one. I asked, "Why did you pick the flute as your instrument?" Her reply was something like this, "Because it fit into my bag." And I thought that I was the practical one all of these years! She made that instrument (and others) sing for decades as she and her husband passed the love of all things harmonic onto their kids and grandkids.
