Marguerite Masterson was born February 7, 1918, in Milford, Utah, to Hyrum Joseph and Paulina LaVerna Banks Davis. Marguerite grew up in southern Utah but spent much of her adult life living in Upstate New York and Southern California. She is survived by her daughter, Phyllis (Randy) Dansie; her son, John (Flo) Serafine; 15 grandchildren; and 43 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Pat Masterson, her parents, and 8 brothers and sisters. She and Pat were married on September 20, 1975 in Pasadena California. After Pat’s passing in 2001, she was sealed to him for time and all eternity in the Provo Temple. Marguerite’s life was dedicated to her family and living the gospel of Jesus Christ. She was a life-long member of the LDS church serving in Relief Society for many years as the Homemaking Leader and a Visiting Teaching Supervisor. Mom was well known for her love of cooking especially for her family. She started her cooking career in the mining camps of western Utah and eastern Nevada as a young bride. Later she used those talents working in public schools and a board and care facility which she managed. Everyone who ever ate at her table came away filled but wanting more. Gramma’s homemade spaghetti sauce and noodles were a favorite of everyone. Marguerite’s family will also remember her for the wonderful times we always had when we visited Gramma and Grampa Pat’s home. Besides eating, there were hours of fun playing cards (which she usually won), watching sports, going to Disneyland, and picking the largest avocados anyone had ever seen. Her green thumb not only grew the largest, most beautiful indoor plants but the most lavish gardens that kept her family fed when she was a young mother. Babies loved Gramma Boo’s soft, comfy lap where love and tenderness put many a fussy baby to sleep. Mom was beautiful, loving, generous, dedicated, strong, honest, and faithful. Indeed we may say if there was or ever will be anyone virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, it is Marguerite Masterson. Even though we will miss you greatly, we will continue to see you and the things you taught us in our lives. The family would like to express its thanks to all the aides, nurses, and administrators at Parkway Health Center in Payson, Utah, and Sunbrook Hospice for their loving and patient care of Mom while she lived there this past year. Funeral services will be held Saturday March 6, 2010 at the Mountain View 1st Ward Chapel, 1128 East 100 South Payson, Utah at 2 p.m. A viewing will be held from 12:45 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. prior to services.
