MARGUERITE PATRICIA ROGERS

A Paradise resident for 80 years, Marguerite Patricia Rogers died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006. She was 83.

Born in Chico, Calif., May 28, 1923, the daughter of Kennith and Alice Gobin, she was the sixth of seven children. After moving to Paradise in 1926, she attended Paradise Elementary School and graduated from Chico High School. The family had Gobin's Flower shop, the first florist in Paradise. She worked for Pacific Bell Telephone in Chico for four years.

On Sept. 21, 1945, she married Jack Rogers, her childhood sweetheart, at the Craig Memorial Congregational Church. In 1946, they built their home on College Hill on Pearson Road in sight of the Congregational Church. They lived there for 53 years. In 1995, Jack and Marguerite renewed their vows at the same church. Since the death of Jack in 1999, she has lived at Oak Knoll Senior Living.

Marguerite is survived by daughters: Nancy Rogers of Paradise and Linda James of St. Paul, Minn.; grandchildren: Kevin and Wendy Carl and great-grandchildren E J and Jarod Carl and Stephanie and Jimmy Stuck. The surviving siblings are Ted Gobin and Pam Warren of Paradise; Paul Gobin of Burney and Eloise Crary of Modesto. Brothers: Laurence and Phillip Gobin preceded her in death.

Marguerite was a 60-year member of the PEO Sisterhood, Chapter KT of Paradise, Calif., and a member of Eastern Star. While raising her daughters, she was a Girl Scout Leader, active in PTA, a Room Mother and active in the parents club of Job's Daughters. In 1997, she and Jack were the Grand Marshals of Gold Nugget Days. She was instrumental in the organizing of the annual Old Timers Picnic and was a member of the Paradise Historical Society, a Life member of the Butte County Historical Society, and a Life Member of the Gold Nugget Museum.

For more than 25 years, Marguerite and Jack traveled at every opportunity as their life was always an adventure.

There will be a memorial service with a tribute by the PEO Sisterhood on Friday, Dec. 8, 2006, at 1 PM. at the Paradise Chapel of the Pines. This will be a celebration of a remarkable life. Memorial contributions can be made to the Gold Nugget Museum, P. O. Box 949, Paradise, CA 95967.

The family of Marguerite Rogers wants to offer our sincere thanks to all employees of Oak Knoll Senior Living for their care, concern and the extreme thoughtfulness shown to Marguerite and her family for the past seven years. Also we are very grateful for the care that Dr. Richard Turner has given Marguerite for many years. Although the period of time that Paradise Hospice cared for Marguerite was short, the concern and care shown was a comfort to Marguerite and the family.

Not sure what to say?

Nancy and Linda, I am so sorry to hear(read)about your mom. I don't know if either of you remember me, but we lived across Pearson Road from you, when I was quite small. If fact, one or both of you, baby-sat my brother(Skip) and I. I have very fond memories of both of you, along with your parents. Swimming in the back yard, ect, and your parents dog, coco.(Standard Poodle, right?) My prayers are with you both and your family, Sincerely yours Barbara Mahy (maiden name Jarred)

To my Great Aunt who I admired and had great respect. You are in the hands of our Lord. My sympathy to the family.

I am saying goodby to a very special Aunt and though I feel sad at her leaving us, I know she is with her husband again. I have so many great memories of her when I was growing up that I will always keep her in my heart.
