Obituary

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the journey of eternal life of our loving mother and grandmother, Maria, in her 89th year, with her daughter at her side, peacefully on Wednesday, December 14th, 2011 at Glendale Crossings Nursing Home. Our beloved Maria left behind her cherished and devoted daughter, Angela Vecchio and her husband, Luigi, of London; son Emilio Bassi and his wife, Antonetta of Italy; and daughter-in-law Patricia Bernardo of London. She will be reunited with her son Giuseppe "Joe" Bernardo (2010). Cherished Nonna of 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Visitations for family and friends will be received in the O'Neil Funeral Home, 350 William Street, on Friday, December 16th, 2011, from 2:00-4:00 pm and from 7:00-9:00 pm, with prayers at 8:15 pm. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church, 345 Lyle Street, on Saturday, December 17th, 2011 at 10:00 am. She will be laid to rest at St. Peter's Holy Chapel Mausoleum at 806 Victoria Street. Memorial Donations to Alzheimer's Society will be appreciated.

Per sempre nei nostril cuori, riposa in pace.

To all the staff of Glendale Crossings, no words can express our gratitude for the care, kindness and compassion you have all provided to our Maria, and us as a family. Your kindness, gentleness, comfort, reassurance, smiles and dignity to the end will be forever remembered.

Her friendly smile and gentle touch
That is what we miss so much.
A special person, a special face,
Someone we loved and can't replace.
You were our mother, our strength,
Our inspiration and our best friend.
We will miss your loving heart and radiant smile
Your precious memories will be with us forever.
