KOLTAY, MARIA
Flint
Age 84, passed away into the Lord's hands, Wednesday February 29, 2012 at Briarwood Manor. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am Monday March 5, 2012 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church 6340 Roberta Dr. Burton. Fr. Carl Simons, celebrant. Burial in Flint Memorial Park. She was born
in Martonvasar-Budapest, Hungary on June 12, 1927, to Jozsef and Katalin Irk. She married Michael Kolecsanszky on July 21, 1956 and later shortened their name to Koltay. They came to the United States in January 1957, escaping the Hungarian Revolution of 1956, as refugee freedom fighters, seeking a life free of communist oppression. She was 7 months pregnant when they set off and endured many hardships. Her most inspirational memory was of their crossing the icy November Raab River bordering Austria. When she looked up to the stormy night sky, the clouds briefly parted and a single star shined down on her, at which point she knew God was assuring her He would guide them to safety. She always cried when telling this story. Her first child, Maria, was born upon arrival in January, in Flint. She was a beautiful hearted soul, with immense love for God, family and the life she left behind in Hungary. She was a seamstress, talented artist and very involved in the International Institute. We do and will miss her with all our hearts. She leaves her daughter, Maria Dunn of Davison, her son Joseph Koltay, daughter -in-law Colette Marie Koltay and grandchildren Brittany Marie Koltay and Danielle Rose Koltay. Her beloved dog Bailey her lunch buddy. Special friends Vilma and Ilonka. She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers, one sister and beloved dog Mutsy. Special thanks to Dr. Al-Jabban and all the care at Briarwood. Orok szeretettel draga Anyuka, until we meet again. Share your condolences at
