Maria Paschyn (née Stetkevich), 97, formerly of Lorain, passed away February 4, 2013 at the Holy Family Hospice in Parma following a brief illness.
She was born April 28, 1915 in Vienna, Austria. She immigrated to United States in 1950. She lived in Detroit for five years before moving to Lorain and lived here for 43 years until moving to Shevchenko Manor in Parma 1998.
Mrs. Paschyn was an active member of Saint John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, Lorain and the church's Prayer Apostleship. She was also a member of Ukrainian National Women's League of America for over fifty years and Plast Ukrainian scouting organization. Maria was Instructor of Ukrainian Folk Dancing. She choreographed the Ukrainian Folk Dancers at the first Lorain International Festival in 1967. Maria was highly educated; she studied for her law degree in Lviv, Ukraine.
Maria will be dearly missed by her sons Bohdan (Kwitoslava) Paschyn of Annapolis, Maryland, Oleh (Lisa) Paschyn of Parma; daughters Zorianna (Zenon) Kohut of Edmonton Alberta, Canada and Larissa (Nestor) Holynsky of Matawan, New Jersey; grandchildren Alexander, Marko, Meka (Marc), Damian, Lelia (Justin), Christina (Alexander) and Larissa (Andrew); great grandchildren Max, Maryna, and Mia.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years Eugene Paschyn; her parents Rev. Mykola and Mychajlyna (née Levytsky) Stetkevich; her brothers Dr. Roman Stetkevich, Eugene Stetkevich, and Alexander Stetkevich and sisters Marta and Vlodymyra Stetkevich.
Her family will receive friends Wednesday, February 6, 12 noon until time of Divine Liturgy at 1 PM. in St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, 3038 Charleston Avenue, Lorain. The Very Rev. Canon Steven M. Paliwoda, Pastor and Fr. Bohdan Barytskyy, Assistant Pastor of Saint Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral, Parma will concelebrate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery Lorain.
The family suggests memorial contributions to any charity of their own choosing.

Saddened to learn of the passing of Pani Paschyn. She was a great lady. Brought back many memories from Altotting, Purten, Detroit and Lorain.

Most sincere condolences to the family. Pani Paschyn was quite a Lady and an activist in the Ukrainian community.

I am so sorry to hear of your mother's passing. I have so many fond memories of the time our families spent together in Lorain, Ohio. I can still hear my mom on the phone with Pani Paschyn. Our prayers are with you and your family. Vichnaya Payat!

I'm sorry to hear of the passing of Pani Paschyn. She was my 1st Ukrainian dancing instructor and lead our dancing group each year at the Lorain International Festival.Such fond memories. May her memory be eternal. Vichnaya Pamyat!
