So many great childhood memories were spent on the front porch of the Spano's 54th street home. I have many photos of all the neighborhood kids lining the steps on a hot summer day. Never once were we shooed away, yelled at for making too much noise, or told to go home. We were always welcomed and felt love, like a second or exteded family. Although I have Irish/ Slovak heritage, the Spanos made me want to be Italian. So much so that I married one and cook like the best of them. Thank you...

I just heard about the passing of your mom today. I am so sorry to hear this. She was a wonderful woman.

My, it has been a very long time. I was born and raised on 54th street with fond memories of our "gang" hanging out on the Spano's porch with the aroma of wonderful Italian sauce cooking on the stove and Mrs Spano always offering us laqua and me asking Vito what is she saying! This was the late 60's early 70's and my sisters and I cherished the friendships we had with Mimo Rosie Rita and Vito. Nancy was suppose to marry Vito as I recall.
