TABB, Maria Brown Gregory, widow of Cabell Mayo Tabb, died peacefully at her home on Saturday, June 29, 2013. Mrs. Tabb was President of Grinnan, Harris, Tabb & Co., a general insurance agency, from 1980 until her retirement in 1988. This firm was the successor to Tabb & Co. founded by her husband who died in 1966. She entered the firm shortly thereafter. Mrs. Tabb was born on February 4, 1926, in Richmond, Va., the only daughter of the late Charles Alexander Gregory and Josephine Keith Brown of Richmond, Va. and Granville County, N.C. She was predeceased by her older brother, Charles A. Gregory, Jr. She was a graduate of St. Catherine's School, St. Mary's Junior College in Raleigh, N.C., and Sweet Briar College. She attended the Attingham Summer School in England in 1976. Mrs. Tabb served as President of The National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the Commonwealth of Virginia from 1969 to 1975 and First Regent of Gunston Hall Plantation from 1976 to 1979. She also served as President of the Junior Board of Sheltering Arms Hospital, Belle Bryan Day Nursery and Foundation, and Richmond Child Care Centers. She was a former board member of the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities, Prestwould Foundation, George Mason Society, Jamestown Society, The Woman's Club, Junior League of Richmond, The Antiquarian Society of Richmond and Museum of the Confederacy. In addition, Mrs. Tabb was a member of The Country Club of Virginia and the Philadelphia Quarry Club. She was a lifelong communicant of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. Mrs. Tabb conscientiously maintained her lifetime relationships with both family and communities in Granville County, N.C. She is survived by her family who will greatly miss her presence in their lives: her son, C. Mayo Tabb, Jr.; her daughter, Keith Tabb Wyllie and husband, Tom; and her three devoted grandchildren, T. Tabb Wyllie, Maria Brown Wyllie, and Wilson Hodges Houston Wyllie. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 6000 Grove Ave., Richmond, Va., followed by a reception. Interment at Hollywood Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Trinity Episcopal School, Capital Campaign, 3850 Pittaway Drive, Richmond, Va. 23235.

I worked for Mrs. Tabb back in the early 80's at Grinnan, Harris & Tabb. She was such a sweet lady. My prayers are sent to her family.
