William J. Burke & Sons / Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes Obituary

Saratoga Springs, NY - Marianne H. Knapp, 75, passed away peacefully at her home after a courageous, four-year battle with colon cancer. Affectionately known as our Family Matriarch, Marianne was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, cherished sister, aunt, cousin, loyal friend, and confidant.

On June 8, 1946, Marianne was born in Troy, New York, to the late John and Arlene Cahill. After graduating from Catholic Central High School in 1964, she briefly attended Nursing School. Her thirty-year career was dedicated to helping families in the community, working with the Saratoga County EOC and WIC Programs. Marianne loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and granddogs. She was a huge Yankee fan, enjoyed casino visits, shopping, winters in Daytona Beach, spring break trips with her sisters and favorite brother, and traveling in general, especially by train. Her cooking skills were admired by all. Her family coveted her spaghetti sauce and meatballs. She was also known for her goulash, potato salad, baked beans, chocolate chip cookies, and peanut butter cups for her grandchildren.

Devoted wife of Barry J. Knapp for 55 years and loving mother of Kimberly (Ron) Koopman of Alpharetta, GA, Dr. Barry J. (Dr. Lori Givonetti) Knapp, of Norfolk, VA, and Jennifer (Bill) Sarver of Saratoga Springs, NY. She was the proud grandmother of her seven grandsons: Ry & Chase Koopman, Jacob, Adam & Lucas Knapp, Griffin & Mason Sarver, and her granddogs Toga, Blue, Finn & Douglas. She was the beloved sister of Peter (Janet) Cahill of Dunedin, FL; Patsy (Scott) Wixson of Colonie, NY; and Peggy (Mike) Manupella of Troy, NY. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and a multitude of friends. She was predeceased by her parents, and her fur babies Grunch, Frank, Heineken, Genesee and Bud, who we know were waiting for her at the Rainbow Bridge to escort her to the Gates of Heaven.

Her family would like to thank Dr. Lee, Dr. Patel, Dr. Delmonte and Dr. Frank, as well as the doctors, nurses and aides at both Albany Medical Center and Saratoga Hospital. In addition, a special thank you to Saratoga County Hospice, especially Alice and Ann, for the kind and compassionate care Marianne received in the comfort of her home.

Relatives and friends may call from 4pm to 7pm, Monday August 16, 2021 at the William J. Burke & Sons/ Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs (518-584-5373). Appropriate face coverings will be required.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am, Tuesday August 17, 2021 at the historic Church of St. Peter, 241 Broadway by the Rev. Thomas H. Chevalier, pastor. Burial will follow at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Saratoga County Animal Shelter, 6010 County Farm Rd., Ballston Spa, NY 12020 (518-885-4113).
