Marie will always be a part of me. She was faithful to each one of us as youngsters, challenging our capabilities to always strive for the best. She really cared for the goofy group of tap-dancers and acrobat/tumblers that included me, Fred, Marlene, etc. As we grew into adolescence she challenged us with civic plays and other events. Those of us who were active in these events learned much about ourselves and are indebted to Marie for opening the windows of opportunity for the kids in a...

I was sorry to read about Marie's death. The older I get the more fondly I remember my childhood in the Bettendorf/P.V. area. We stopped and visited with Jake and Marie many nights and Marie always had a way of making me feel like one of the "big" kids. I also remember going to her house for dance lessons with Marlene-Marie certainly encouraged youth in the field of the arts. Please know that you have my sympathy.

SORRY TO HEAR OF MARIE'S DEATH. SHE MADE AN IMPRESSION ON A LOT OF PEOPLE. SHE USED TO STAGE PLAYS AT RIVERDALE SCHOOL AND THAT'S THE FIRST TIME A LOT OF US HEARD "SOME OF MY FAVORITE THINGS" FROM THE SOUND OF MUSIC. ALWAYS USED TO WONDER HOW SHE GOT THAT MUSIC AHEAD OF THE REST OF US. SHE WAS VERY GOOD AT THAT KIND OF THING

I'm sorry to hear of Marie's passing and my sympathies are with you. Other than my family I think my earliest childhood memories are of Jake and Marie. Their place was always a mandatory stop on the "Trick or Treat" route.

I was sorry to hear of Marie's death. I will always remember her from my childhood in Pleasant Valley--her energy, creativity, and zest for everything. I hadn't seen her for years but she was someone you certainly didn't forget. Mark and I express our sympathies to all of you.

It's hard to believe that an "Icon" to the Pleasant Valley community such as Marie was to me, is gone. I fondly remember all the times spent during the summer months working for Jake and Marie back when Onions were King like Cotton is King to the South. My sincere condolences to the family.

Dear Marylou,Marlene and Fred, Jim and I wish to express our condolences to and your family's in the loss of your Mother. I have many many fond memories of growing up in Pleasant Valley and being part of the Dodd's family in social participation, and Church youth group of which your Mother was instrumental in keeping it going. Mainly The Pleasant Valley Church Luther Leauge. She sure taught us a lot about getting something done and self worth that we can do it and we will do it. She was a...
