Marie M. Haubenstricker

Passed away peacefully Friday, February 7, 2020 in Bluffton, South Carolina; age 94 years. Marie M. Aven was born on May 19, 1925 in Saginaw, MI to the late Frederick and Helen (Bader) Aven. She was baptized and later confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church in Reese, MI. She grew up on the family farm the oldest of 5 children. During her high school years, she and her sister Arlene worked at Zehnder’s of Frankenmuth. She graduated from Saginaw High School in 1942. Marie was married to Wilmar Haubenstricker on December 6, 1947, he predeceased her on October 8, 2015. Following their marriage, they resided in Saginaw and became active members of Redeemer Lutheran Church where Marie worked and volunteered in various capacities. In 1975 they relocated to Frankenmuth and became members of St. Lorenz Lutheran Church where Marie spent many years volunteering in the church and school office. Marie enjoyed singing in the church choir, playing bridge, loved reading, bowling, gardening, and spending time at her cottage in Gaylord, MI. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren very much, especially playing cards with them.
Surviving are: 4 children, Kristine (John) Tye of Middleton, WI, Edith (Rick Finke) Natoniewski of Carbondale, CO, Kathryn Meyer of Bluffton, SC, Thomas (Anne) Haubenstricker of New York City, NY; 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 4 siblings Arlene Frost, Frederick Aven Jr., Roy Aven, Donna (Eugene) Bremer; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will take place on Friday, February 14, 2020 at 10:15 a.m. at Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N. Franklin St. and 11:00 a.m. at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church. Rev. Joel Kaiser will officiate with burial between services in St. Lorenz Lutheran Cemetery. Marie’s family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the prayer service.
