Weatherhead Young Funeral Home Obituary

Marie E. Monahan (nee Price), 98 of Brick NJ, passed away peacefully February 7, 2022, with her family by her side.

Marie was born in Newark, NJ, she lived and raised her family in Millburn, NJ, before retiring and relocating to Brick, NJ in 1983.  In her early years, Marie worked for the telephone company as an operator, as her children grew; she worked for the Millburn Public School System and then as a cook for the Millburn Deli.  She spent her retirement days reading her favorite books, sitting on the beach watching her husband fish.  Her best joy in life was her family; she always had that open door policy she was everyone’s Mom and Grandmother.  As her children were growing up she was the Mom who would cook for the football team, cheer from the sidelines as well as watching her daughter Karen dance at all her recitals.  This led her to enjoy her grandchildren’s activities, band, parades, sporting events and especially sitting front row center for all her granddaughter’s dance recitals.

Marie was predeceased by her husband Michael W. Monahan, her sister Felice Tighe (Vincent dec), her daughter Kathleen Tracy and great-granddaughter Brynley Hagaman. She is survived by her sister Edythe Gorman (William dec), son Thomas “Tim” Monahan (Lynn), her daughter Karen Napoleon (David), Grandchildren Denise Reilly (Chris), Tom Tracy (Kathy), Jennifer Sherman (fiancée John), Kelly Christopher (Rob) Brittaney Hagaman (Corey), Great Grandchildren Nicole & Patrick Reilly, Erin & Keegan Tracy, Nathan Sherman & Landon Losi, Meghan & Emily Christopher and many nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be held on Thursday February 10, 2022, from 4 pm to 8 pm and on Friday from 10 am to 10:30 am.  A funeral home service will be held on Friday at 10:30. The interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Toms River, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Burn Center at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center 94 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston, NJ 07039, would be greatly appreciated.
