Ms. Schmitt was a friend of my mother's from the 1950s when my family moved to the area from Grand Rapids. We were members of the St, Michael's parish and they were both teachers with similar interests. They shared a strong faith. My mother always thought of her as one of the most saintly persons she knew and genuinely loved her. Ms. Schmitt was kind and good to my family and all she knew. My sympathy to her family and the community for this great loss.

Marie was my 6th grade teacher at Reese Puffer. Several years later, my family moved to Holton where my mother got to know Marie better while going to church with her.

I would ride my bike to her home and get lessons in pronunciation and English language skills.

When my father was on hospice, Marie came to my parents home to give my mother communion. Even though my father was not a religious man, he sat in on the meeting and even said the prayer with them.

Not only was Marie my second cousin but also my 6th grade teacher at Reeths-Puffer. She was always kind. I especially appreciated all the work she put into the family geneology book and still use it to this day.

Marie used to volunteer with our 5th graders at Holton Middle School. I also always enjoyed seeing her at the MARSP meetings. She was a kind, caring person.
