Marie Anna Speropulos, 84, of Mesa, Arizona, passed away on January 5, 2007. Marie Morse Speropulos passed away on January 5th, 2007 from a brain tumor at the age of 84. She was born in Portland, Oregon on Oct. 22, 1922 and graduated in 1940 from Roosevelt H.S. in Portland. She married Peter Speropulos in 1946 and later attended college in Arizona after moving there in 1947. During World War II she worked at a government plant, sold war bonds, and hand wrapped bandages at the local Red Cross for the war effort. After the war she was committed to community service. She was active in the Brownies, 4H, Scouts, and served as a PTA officer and P.R. reporter for the local newspaper. Furthermore, she was a charter member of the Woman's Auxiliary at the Local Boy's Club and belonged to the Daughter's of Penelope Chapter 150. In 1953 she was one of three women that organized the inaugural "Mothers March of Dimes" campaign in Phoenix. Moreover, in 1955 she served as a volunteer director for the Sabin vaccine sugar cube clinic. She continued with the "March of Dimes" through 1965. She then spent four years as a volunteer at a prenatal clinic in South Phoenix. Here business life included a successful drapery manufacturing company. Later, Marie and Peter went into business together in Tempe, restoring classic cars. They retired to Casa Grande in 1989. He preceded her in death on January 5, 1991. Survivors are: daughter, Georgiana of Phoenix, son, Thomas (Mary) of Mesa, grandson, Nicholas (Chanelle) of Los Angeles, her sister, Helen Williams, two nephews, two nieces all of Portland, OR., many aunts, uncles and cousins from Massachusetts and California. She has requested no services and in lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice of the Valley, in her name. Her interment will be at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix.
