Marie was born on August 20, 1943, in Zwingle, Iowa, daughter of Francis and Florence (Collins) Fagan.  She received her education from St. Joseph’s West in Zwingle, Iowa, and graduated from Visitation Catholic High School in Dubuque.  On August 3, 1968, she was united in marriage to David Thier at Holy Family Catholic Church in New Mellray, Iowa. She worked as a shipping clerk at Dubuque Pack prior to her marriage and later was a nurse’s aide at Mount Carmel for 10 years from 1998 to 2008.

Marie was a devoted Catholic and member of the St. Paul’s Parish in Worthington, Iowa.  She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of Americas Presentation Court #1460 for 50 years, and taught CCD in Worthington for years.

Those left to cherish Marie’s memory are her three daughters, Mary (Kevin) Clemen of Worthington, Colleen (Steve) Bartels of Dubuque, and Joan Thier of Farley; 3 grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Mitchel Clemen, and Vala Bartels; one sister, sister Ruth Fagan OSF of Dubuque; brothers and sisters-in-law, Daniel (Eileen) Thier of Worthington, Dale (Ann) Thier of Cedar Rapids, Richard Thier of Juneau, WI, and LouAnn Burkle of Des Moines.

The family would like to thank the Nurses and staff at Accura Health Care, Above and Beyond Hospice and Rev. Mark Osterhaus for all the wonderful care and support they gave Marie.

I just have such a tender spot in my heart for Marie because on any given day, she would come by my garage and make a deposit of new items for our toy project. She always wanted to help the little ones. She would so graciously ask about the members of our family and thank me for what I was doing in the community. To each of your family members, I extend my sympathy because we are saying farewell to a wonderful, hard working, prayerful woman. Marie, may you rest in peace and enjoy the...
