We Celebrate the life of Marie V. Torres. She was born on February 10th 1926 in a Family of 13, she lived shy of 9 decades of Life. She survived through the depression and several of America's changes. She made her way through life with heart and determination and passed this strength onto her two children and grandson. She lived the majority of her life in the "Little Italy" neighborhood in San Diego, working at the Cathedral Catholic School, San Diego Hotel, Naval Officers Club and at Rancho Bernardo Country Club until her retirement, she continued her community involvement through various volunteer activities: Foster Grandparents, Special Olympics, Senior Center and other youth activities receiving many accolades of recognition and appreciation.

She was our mother and grandmother; she was one of a kind. We can shed tears that she is gone, or we can smile because she lived. Let's remember the gifts that she gave to us, a sense of security, determination, perseverance, love of family and unconditional love. There was no doubt that we could always count on her. She grew up to be a very strong independent woman and made life better for her family. She loved to travel and was open to new experience's often visiting her daughter in Hawaii. She came from very humble beginnings and grew up to truly appreciate all that she had. Because of her dad and moms hard life during the depression, she wanted to have a better life. When she was young woman, growing up in Gallup she became a Harvey Girl and then later work at the famous El Rancho Hotel, she dressed with a classy flare and loved to dance. She often spoke of her past with tender memories and had a very youthful spirit and nature.

She was called home to heaven on Annunciation Day March 25, 2015, however she continues to live through her surviving children Johnny, Flora and grandson Mario as well as her surviving brothers and sisters, Greg, Ray, Nettie, and Mario. Thank you all for knowing and loving her. Her Celebration of Life services are to be held at Baca's Funeral Chapel, for on line condolences please visit www.bacasfuneralchapelslascruces.com
