VALDEZ, Marie A. – Of Grand Blanc, formerly of Pontiac, age 86, died Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at McLaren-Flint with her family present.
A private funeral mass will be celebrated at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church.

Burial in All Saints Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation or a charity of one’s choice.
Visitation 4-8pm Monday, February 1, 2021 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. A Rosary will be prayed 7pm Monday evening at the funeral home. Due to Covid-19 and government regulations, only 25 people will be allowed in the chapel at one time. Mask, group capacity and distancing guidelines must be practiced.
Marie was born in Edna, Texas on March 21, 1934, the daughter of Willie and Petra (Trevino) Rios and the eldest of 8 children. On October 6, 1956, she married Ramiro Valdez in Inez, Texas. She was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Marie worked as a CNA at Bloomfield Hills Nursing Center and also at Birmingham Plastics. She enjoyed going to casinos, horse races, traveling, baseball, and watching game shows. She was a fun person, an excellent storyteller and even better cook. Marie was a devoted mother, grand-mother and great-grandmother and was always the center of family gatherings.
Surviving are children, Dora (Patrick) Montgomery, Theresa (Eugene) Pena, Mary Ann (Estevan) Reyes, Gloria Vega;
16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren;
Siblings, Willie Rios Jr., Abundio Rios, Mary Sanchez, Silger Rios, Delores Robitaille.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ramiro in 2007, son, Ramiro Jr. in 1999, grandsons, Jeremiah Hargett Emilio Valdez and siblings, Lydia Huerta and Phillip Rios.
